Unauthorized modification of displayed content in BSP, SAP security note 1525427

SAP Note 1525427

SAP security note 1525427, “Unauthorized modification of displayed content in BSP”. Below are the symptom, SAP recommended solution and the affected software components.

Description

Symptom

BSP can be abused by a malicious user to modify displayed application content without authorization and potentially obtain authentication information from other legitimate users.

Solution

Apply the relevant support package as detailed below.

Reason and prerequisites

Pages within BSP do not sufficiently encode input parameters, leading to a reflected cross site scripting vulnerability. This can allow an attacker to non-permanently deface or modify website content and steal authentication information, enabling impersonation of users. If an administrator is impersonated, a full compromise of application security may occur.

Affected components

  • SAP_BASIS: Versions 620 to 640, 700 to 702, 710 to 730
