SAP security note 1676070, “Unauthorized modification of displayed content PLM-PPM-PDN”, is released on May 8, 2012. Below are the symptom and SAP recommended solution.
Description
Symptom
PLM-PPM-PDN can be abused by an attacker, allowing them to modify displayed application content without authorization and potentially obtain authentication information from other legitimate users.
Solution
Apply this SAP Note or import the changes via the relevant support package.
Reason and prerequisites
BSP Pages within PLM-PPM-PDN do not sufficiently encode input parameters, resulting in a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability. An attacker can exploit this to non-permanently deface or modify displayed content on the website.
Additionally, reflected XSS can be used to steal another user's authentication information, such as session data. An attacker with access to this data may impersonate the user and access all information with the same rights. If an administrator is impersonated, the application's security can be fully compromised.
