SAP security note 2067972, “Potential modification of persisted data in HANA XS Administration”, is a program error note released on 14.10.2014. Below are the symptom, SAP recommended solution and the affected software components.
Description
Symptom
An attacker can exploit HANA XS Administration and use specially crafted inputs to modify database commands, resulting in the modification of configuration data persisted by the system.
Solution
The issue is fixed with HANA revision 83. Update to Revision 83 or later.
Reason and prerequisites
The problem is caused by an SQL injection vulnerability. The code composes an SQL statement that contains strings that can be altered by an attacker. The manipulated SQL statement can then be used to modify information in the configuration.
