SAP Security Note
HotNews
SAP security note 1453164, "Missing authorization check in module of upgrade", is a program error note released on January 11, 2011. Below are the symptom, SAP recommended solution and the affected software components.
Description
Symptom
An authenticated user can use functions of upgrade tools to which access should be restricted. This may result in an escalation of privileges. As a result, a malicious user can delete any table contents.
Solution
Implement the corrections or import the relevant Support Package. For releases lower than Release 46A, you can implement the correction instructions manually, provided the relevant object exists.
Reason and prerequisites
The function group SUGX of the upgrade tools does not contain authorization checks to verify an authenticated user’s authorization to access some of its functions. This may result in undesired system behavior and compromise the data integrity of the system, as logged-on users can execute any function modules in test mode.
Affected components
- SAP_APPL 31I to 31I
- SAP_APPL 40A to 40B
- SAP_APPL 45A to 45B
- SAP_BASIS 46A to 46D
- SAP_BASIS 610 to 640
- SAP_BASIS 700 to 702
- SAP_BASIS 710 to 720
